BBVA Phasing Out Non-Sustainable Cards; Westpac Includes Gambling Payment Controls

Westpac has included user controls to its online and mobile platforms. These user controls allow players to restrict their betting payments. It is the latest technique used by banking institutions to use technology to cut down the rate of compulsive gambling.

The controls can be applied via a debit or credit Visa or MasterCard. According to bank reports, about 2,500 customers have applied the product within its first month.

Other financial institutions have also embraced other tools in a bid to encourage responsible gaming. Barclays recently put a gaming payment block to its cards, and Monzo utilizes an open banking connection to put gaming blocks for third-party apps.
