The Asgard slot is a Norse mythology video slot from Realtime Gaming (RTG). It plays on a 5x3 grid with 243 ways to win, and the cast includes Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki. Review sites date its release to around late 2017.

The main draw is a free spins hall with four rounds. You start with one and unlock the others by triggering the bonus again and again. In the base game, a random Thunderbolt feature can turn up to five reels wild before the spin pays.

Theme and Design

Asgard is set in the home of the Norse gods. Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki are the premium symbols, alongside Mjölnir (Thor’s hammer) and the hall of Valhalla. The low-paying symbols are card ranks from 9 to A, carved with runes to suit the theme.

The game looks like a mid-2010s release. The art is detailed but static next to newer animated slots. The menus are simple, so it’s easy to pick up if you’ve played any modern video slot.

Reels, Ways and Symbols in Asgard Slots

Asgard uses 5 reels and 3 rows with 243 ways to win. You don’t pick paylines. A win needs at least three matching symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel.

  • Low-value symbols: runed 9, 10, J, Q, K and A.
  • High-value symbols: Mjölnir, Valhalla, Freya, Loki, Thor and Odin.
  • Wild: the standard wild substitutes for regular symbols.
  • Golden Wild: also substitutes, and any win it helps to form is doubled.
  • Scatter (Bonus): a runed scatter that pays anywhere on the reels and triggers the free spins.

Third-party sources give different paytable values and scatter prizes, and we couldn’t confirm them with RTG. We’ve left out a full paytable for that reason. Open the in-game paytable at your casino to see the exact payouts for your stake.

Bonus Features Explained

Thunderbolt (random wild reels)

Thunderbolt can trigger at random on any base game spin. It turns between one and five reels completely wild before wins are calculated. Five wild reels would cover the whole grid, which is where the biggest base game wins come from. It doesn’t trigger during free spins.

Scatter wins and the Hall of Free Spins

Scatters anywhere on the reels pay a prize. Three or more open the Hall of Free Spins. The game counts how many times you have triggered the bonus, and each new round becomes available after a set number of triggers.

  • Goddess Feature (available from the 1st trigger): 15 free spins, and every win is tripled.
  • Loki’s Magic (from the 5th trigger): 20 free spins. Extra wilds can land on reel 3 and turn symbols on other reels into wilds.
  • Thunder God (from the 10th trigger): 25 free spins. Wilds with x2 or x3 multipliers appear on the middle reels. If one combines with a Golden Wild, the multiplier can double again.
  • Valhalla (from the 15th trigger): 30 free spins with morphing symbols. Winning symbols are replaced by new ones, and the win multiplier climbs with each consecutive win, up to x5.

Sources agree that each round can be retriggered. They differ on how many extra spins each retrigger gives. How the trigger count is saved between sessions can also depend on the casino, so check the game’s help screen if you want to unlock the later rounds.

RTP, Volatility and Max Win

We couldn’t find an official RTG game sheet for Asgard, and independent sources disagree on the numbers. Most review sites list an RTP of about 96%, but at least one lists 94.2%. Volatility is described as medium by some and medium-high by others.

Maximum win figures vary even more, from about 1,250x to 2,000x the stake. We haven’t published a single number because none of them could be confirmed with the developer. RTG casinos can also run different RTP settings. Before you play for real money, check the RTP and maximum win in the game’s information screen at your casino.

How to Play Asgard

  1. Set your stake. Several sources list a range of about 0.30 to 7.50 per spin, but the limits depend on the casino and currency. Check them in the game.
  2. Spin. All 243 ways are always active, so the stake is the only setting you change.
  3. Watch for Thunderbolt. It triggers at random. You can’t do anything to make it happen.
  4. Land three or more scatters. This opens the Hall of Free Spins. Choose any round you have already unlocked.
  5. Use autoplay carefully. Set a loss limit if your casino lets you.

Tips and Bankroll Management

Most of Asgard’s appeal is in the later free spins rounds, and you only reach them by triggering the bonus many times. The Valhalla round needs 15 triggers. Don’t raise your stake to chase it. More triggers mean more spins, not better odds.

  • Set a budget and a session time before you start, and stop when you reach either one.
  • Choose a stake that gives you a few hundred spins from your budget, so normal losing runs don’t end the session early.
  • The Goddess round’s x3 multiplier on every win makes it a steady option. Loki’s Magic and Valhalla can pay more but swing more.
  • Every spin is random, and no strategy changes the house edge. Play for entertainment, not to make money. Gambling is for adults aged 18 and over only.

Our Verdict

Asgard gives Norse mythology a solid structure: 243 ways, two kinds of wild, random wild reels and four free spins rounds that change how the bonus plays. The unlock system gives you a reason to keep playing, but the best rounds take patience and a real budget to reach.

It’s a good choice for players who like long-term features and steady volatility. It’s a weaker choice if you want modern graphics, a bonus buy or clearly published stats. Before you play for real money, check the RTP and limits at your casino.
